I have been a teacher for 13 years now, the last five of which have been at Bridgewater teaching Year 6. Before I came here, I taught in Hemel Hempstead, in a two-form-entry primary school, where I worked in Year 4 - for 8 years in a row! While working in Hemel, I took a little bit of time out to have my own two children (now aged 8 and 12).
When I first arrived at Bridgewater, we were a middle school and I taught Maths, English and Science to my own Year 6 class and Science to other Year 6 groups. I thoroughly enjoyed this as I have a real passion for Science - investigations in particular!
The family spirit that we share makes this a very special place to work. Staff and children work together as a team and I really feel like people here are part of my wider family. I love the enthusiasm of the staff for offering the children the most exciting and engaging learning experiences that they can – and the enthusiasm of the children as they go through our school.
These last three years, I have had my own class for most curriculum areas and have been able to really appreciate their individual personalities, watching them develop as young people as they progress through the year. It never fails to surprise me how much they mature in such a short time. The only downside to teaching the same class for pretty much everything is that you really miss them when they go!
Being part of our Bridgewater family still brings me great joy and I hope to be here for many years to come.
