Role on Board: Leon is a co-opted governor who, since September 2016, has acted as Chair of our Teaching and Learning Committee then Vice Chair.
Professional skills/background: I am Headmaster of Belmont, Mill Hill Preparatory School in North London. The school has around 470 boys and girls from the ages of 7 to 13. I have been at the school for 11 years and have been both the Deputy Head (Academic) and the Senior Deputy Head (Pastoral). I graduated in History at Lancaster University before training to be a secondary school History teacher 20 years ago. I have taught in a range of schools, both secondary maintained and independent, before moving onto Belmont. I am a keen cricketer and played for Berkhamsted Cricket Club for several years before family, work commitments and dodgy knees prompted retirement from regular participation.
Interest in being a governor: I have lived in Berkhamsted over 10 years and my three daughters all attend Bridgewater. I love Bridgewater for its special ethos, the happy community and its stunning setting. It is a school where my children are very happy and it is an honour to be a governor.
Your advice to / quote for children at Bridgewater school: "If asked to pass on any life lessons to Bridgewater children I would say that they should always embrace challenge. Don’t be afraid to have a go at things and realise that it’s OK to fail and that we learn from mistakes. Most important of all, whatever you do, do it with a smile on your face."
