Arrangements for Tuesday 12 December including pantomime trip

Dear Parents and Carers,

As you know, children in Reception to Year 4 are due to go to the pantomime tomorrow and so we have been considering all options today to enable this to happen safely. The main roads are fine and the pantomime is going ahead which means the theatre won’t consider a reschedule for us and the tickets are non-refundable.

We have taken the following provisional decision based on the current state of the roads and the weather forecast. Mrs Bettridge and I will review this again at 7am tomorrow morning, reconsidering our risk assessments in light of tomorrow's actual weather and road conditions. Please be aware we may then have to change plans, and possibly even close the school, but we are trying to avoid this. We apologise for the inconvenience but road conditions in the immediate vicinity of school are poor and the safety of the children is our top priority.

  1. Nursery class will be open as usual. Children may arrive at any time up to 10am into Nursery class.
  2. The pantomime trip will go ahead. Please read very carefully the detailed information about this trip below.
  3. Rialize will be open as normal tomorrow

Pantomime: information for children in Reception to Year 4

  • We have decided to open at the normal time, register the children and then walk them to where the coaches are assembled. Children should enter the school through the main front entrance.
  • Coaches will not be able to access the school driveway or car park.
  • We are hoping the coaches will park on Springfield Road but it may be necessary to walk further than that (for example, closer to Northbridge Road) depending on how close we can get the coaches to school.
  • It is therefore important that all children are prepared for a reasonable walk in low temperatures. All children must come into school wearing sturdy boots with grips, warm clothes with extra layers, hats and gloves

Children must wear their school jumper or cardigan as this assists easy identification of Bridgewater pupils when out on school trips.

  • Any children attending the pantomime must be at school by 8.30am at the latest in case we have to walk to the coaches. We will not be able to look after children who arrive after 8.30am as we will not have staff on site for Reception to Year 4 children. Please therefore allow plenty of extra time for your journey.
  • Children will have a packed lunch provided by school (which was the original plan).

Travel requests:

  • The carpark and school drive are treacherous and will remain closed all day tomorrow.
  • Haynes Mead and Bridle Way are currently very slushy with freezing temperatures expected tonight. We therefore strongly recommend that parents do not bring cars into the Haynes Mead / Bridle Way one-way system. If you are driving, please park and walk.
  • We should be grateful if you would avoid parking on Springfield Road after 8.45am, so that there will be room for the coaches to park there. If parents and carers bring cars onto Haynes Mead / Bridle Way, or park on Springfield Road, we will likely face real difficulties getting the coaches through for the pantomime.

If you decide to keep your child at home or if they are unwell, please contact us as soon as possible (tonight if possible) so we can adjust lists etc. Please email admin@bridgewater.herts.sch.uk or call the school and leave a message.

Please note that Running Club is cancelled tomorrow.

Kind regards,

Mrs Doodson
