Commonwealth Games 28.6.22
We had a two day Commonwealth Games event. We got to try out some new sports, learn new skills and develop our skills in some games that we already know.
Our first activity was orienteering in the wood. We worked in teams to follow a trail and make a map of the trail. We hid some treasure and marked the treasure spot on the map. Then we swapped maps and had to follow a map made by another group to find the treasure that they had hidden.
Next we tried wheelchair basketball. We learned how to move backwards and forwards in a wheelchair and how to pick up the ball using the wheel. We played a game of basketball and discovered that some of us were very good at scoring goals, defending, throwing and catching and finding spaces. It was great fun and most of us had never sat in a wheelchair before.
After lunch we played goalball. We were blind folded and used a ball with bells inside. We had to listen carefully and rely on our sense of hearing to work out where the ball was. We played some small team games and had a go at scoring goals and defending a goal.
Finally we played cricket. We played some throwing and catching warm up games to practise the skills we would need for the game. Then we all had a go at fielding and batting and a few of us tried wicket keeping.
We really enjoyed day the first day!
