Each class in the school is named after a bird that can be found in the local area, starting with small birds in nursery and working up to large birds of prey in Year 6.
All pupils (and staff) are placed in one of three houses, named after mythical birds. They are Griffin, Phoenix and Roc. The house system allows pupils to mix with those from other year groups when competing in art, music, drama, sport and other areas.
This gives our pupils a unique opportunity to work as teams, with older pupils taking responsibility for organising events and working alongside younger pupils. We find it also motivates pupils to achieve at whatever level they are capable of, since participation always wins house points. Pupils who may not quite make it into a school team find they are able to represent their house instead.
Attendance also counts towards the house point total, every child contributes to the attendance points, and this offers an additional motivation to work and play hard.
Griffin: Mrs Hardyman
Phoenix: Mrs Brown
