Claire Johns, Associate
I have recently joined as an Associate Governor and am very much looking forward to working with the Governing body.
Skills/Background:
I have been teaching for over twenty years (in secondary education) and am currently working as a Co-Head of History, having been a Head of Department for sixteen years as well as a Head of Faculty for seven.
My professional interests include literacy development, curriculum planning, and the effective use of assessment for learning to support pupil progress. I enjoy creating engaging, inclusive curricula and wholly believe that school should be a positive and enriching experience for every child.
As a mum to a ten-year-old, I'm also hoping to bring a parent perspective to my role. I think I have a good understanding of the needs of primary-aged children and value children's wellbeing as much as I value their learning and progress.
Why do I want to become a Governor?:
I have wanted to join a Governing body for some time to play an active role in supporting my local community, so I'm very excited to have this opportunity. I hope to be able to share and draw upon the knowledge and experience I have gathered throughout my time as a teacher and a parent.
I was drawn to Bridgewater School as the school’s values of kindness, teamwork and integrity align with my own. I am particularly interested in supporting the development of the Humanities and am also a strong advocate for the arts, play-based learning and the importance of fostering children’s emotional wellbeing. I truly believe happy well-rounded children become life-long learners.
