Welcome to Year 1 from Matthew Griffiths, Key Stage 1 Phase Lead
We view year 1 as a positive transition into Key Stage 1. The children will continue to build on the playful learning they experienced in our Early Years Foundation Stage. Our year 1 learning opportunities are carefully planned to deliver a broad and balanced curriculum and we will continue to promote the skills across all areas of learning, both inside and outside.
We know that you, as parents and carers, are children's primary educators and it's important to us that we work in close partnership to ensure the best outcomes for your child. We will regularly share information with you to develop this partnership through weekly home learning. Your engagement will be a positive opportunity to strenthen home/school links. We look forward to working together.
See below for a copy of the welcome booklet for year 1. Please do refer to it throughout the year because it contains lots of useful information about what to expect in this class, information on home learning, samples of age-appropriate handwriting and more.
Year 1 attend Forest School on a Friday in their houses, on a 3 week rotation. For more information about Forest School visit our Forest School page here. To view the latest Forest School timetable click here.
Information on our school uniform can be viewed by clicking here. Please keep a pair of wellies and waterproofs at school as we're often out in all weathers.
Family learning will be sent home in your child's book bag weekly and is expected to to take around 20-30 mins to complete. We also ask that you read with child for 10-15 mins daily and practice year 1 spellings.
