W.B 20.6.22 Recycling and Sports Day fun!
What a packed week! In our SEAL session we talked about being a good sport. We listened to the" Hare and the Tortoise" fable and talked about how to try our best and to be generous if we don't win. We wrote our ideas down. Tuesday was soo hot that we decided to try Phonics outside. We made our own Hopscotch , with tricky words and then we played each other's games. We have been talking and learning about Recycling and looking after our world. We read" Michael Recycle" the Super Hero who saves Earth, and we wrote our own speech bubbles of things he might say. Outside we made our own Goldcrest Recycling centre and had shoots for recycling the different materials. We even recycled litter around the meadow.
Thursday was a big day. It was Sports day. Everyone in our class took part. We did different challenges for our own house and we worked as a team. We are waiting to see which team will win the trophy for the school! Afterwards we were lucky because we all got to eat an ice lolly ! Delicious!
We have had so much fun this week learning about mini beasts. We read a non-fiction book and learnt about ladybirds, shield beetles, crane flies and many more. We wrote facts about mini beasts and we did our own mini beast bug hunt in the meadow. We put our bug hotels in the meadow that we had made for Family Learning. In maths we made our own bugs with odd or even numbers of legs, heads etc. Our Head Gardener worked with Mrs Garcia to plant some sunflowers and our Pak Choi is almost ready to be eaten! We tried some cool meditation when we came back in for lunch too as we were SOOO hot!
W.B 6.6.22 Hungry Caterpillar Assembly and Year 6 Visit .
What a great week again. We have prepared and performed our Hungry Caterpillar assembly. We made a film with Insect facts, we learnt lines and we sang our Caterpillar song very enthusiastically. We were very proud of ourselves ad each other. Well done Team Goldcrest!
We then had a visit from our Year 6 class. They came and shared stories with us and then we showed them round the meadow. We explored together. We're not sure who had more fun us or them!
We have caterpillars and they are growing. We have been careful and looked after them really well. they are nearly ready to make their cocoons. we have been reading "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carle and have explored all things Caterpillar. We have made caterpillars out of loose parts, we have made Caterpillar head gear and we have made our own leaves and shown the different stages of the life cycle both in the class and outside in the meadow. Today we ate a Chocolate caterpillar cake and designed our own butterflies.! We have listened to the story in English, French, German and Spanish and have learnt how to say butterfly - un papillon, Smitterling, and Una mariposa. We also counted to 5 in Spanish. Some more of us have become story tellers and retold the story in our own words and we have written it as a book too.
As well as caterpillar fun - in PE we played real football matches in two stadiums this week. We also had our first visit to the ICT suite where we learned to log on, use Word, write our names and log off. We were very proud of ourselves. What a busy week we have had!
We have been exploring the difference between Fiction and Non fiction books. We have looked at the contents page and we have learnt that Non fiction books teach us something and have information and photos . We have decided to make our own Non fiction animal book . We have all written a page to go in it about all different animals. We also made our own animal obstacle course. We designed it with a friend and labelled it so that the animals know what to do. In the atelier we made different animals using split pins, paints and adding other details. some of us spent ages and ages. It was fun.
Our caterpillars have grown lots this week. We have been looking after them very carefully.
We have been exploring the story "Jacob O Reilly wants a pet" We have been story mapping it and retelling the story in our own words using some of the story language. We have made videos of some of us retelling the story. It's a lot to remember! We have TV presenters in the making I think.
Thursday morning we had great excitement as Mrs Brown, our Year 5 teacher, brought in her own, real Pet snake called Pebbles to visit us. He is a corn snake and we asked lots of questions..... How does he move? Does he shed his skin? How long is he? What does he eat?.
He had a wriggle across our carpet and then everyone was able to touch or hold him. And we did! We were super quiet and very sensible. He felt smooth, slithery, and very cold!
Thank you Mrs Brown and Pebbles.
Family Learning 28th April 22 - Happy Bank Hoilday Weekend!
We have had a busy week exploring our new Pet shop. We have made a fish tank with fish, a pond with tadpoles in, a cage for a hamster and we even made a cage for the Dragon. We made him food and gave him water to drink. We labelled it Dragon Home.
We have read the book "Jacob O 'Reilly wants a Pet " and we have made our own collage of the animals that Jacob Pet sits. We have written our own lists and we have made a thoughtful poster of how to look after our pets, including "train them, play with them and keep them company." We enjoyed doing our own observational drawings of different animals using crayons to shade. We looked carefully at the shapes and colours we could see. Have a look at some of our pictures.
We hope you all have a lovely long weekend and look forward to more fun next week.
Welcome back and we hope that you have all had a really lovely rest and feel refreshed and ready to go. We can't believe how the children have grown throughout the holidays.
