Caroline Allen, Parent
Role on the board:
I joined the board in September 2023 as an Associate Governor and subsequently was elected as Parent Governor in November 2023.
Professional skills/background:
I enjoyed my early career in the travel industry, becoming Sales Director for a Corporate Travel company, then Regional Director, Europe, Middle East and Africa, (EMEA), for a Global Corporate Travel Trade Association, before stepping off the corporate treadmill to become a full-time mum and foster carer.
In my corporate sales career, I was responsible for bid writing, pitching, presenting and negotiating global sales contracts. Running a trade association, I identified industry trends and the pioneering business leaders who initiated and embraced change through innovation. I wrote regular columns in respected trade journals and travelled extensively around Europe and the Middle East, promoting the value of sharing knowledge across the industry, whilst navigating the nuances of operating in diverse, multi-cultural regions. I created peer-to-peer learning programmes through international, national and local events throughout EMEA, varying in size from 50 to more than 1,000 attendees. I selected leaders to identify market-relevant education programme content and chaired planning committees to determine best learning formats. Ultimately, I am proud to have helped many careers in the corporate travel sector develop and flourish around the world.
I subsequently fostered two newborn babies, transitioning them into their adoptive families and plan to foster more children. I am currently a Director of a property management company and own and operate a holiday home in Cornwall.
Interest in being a Governor:
My daughter is at Bridgewater and I am keen to support her education in every way I can. Like many parents in our active Bridgewater community, I have volunteered as a reader and parent helper and enjoy being around curious and inventive little minds. I’m in a position to be able to offer some time to the school and think my skills may be useful to Board, but I also believe I will learn and grow too, through professional engagement with the school.
Your advice/quote for children at Bridgewater School:
"Success is a series of tiny steps. You can do anything you set your mind to, so set yourself a goal, make a plan, and go for it!” Unknown
