Emma Allum, Co-opted
Professional Skills / background:
I have been an English teacher for over twenty years and have taught in primary, secondary and adult settings. I am currently Head of English, Head of Sixth Form and a member of the Senior Leadership Team at a local independent school which specialises in teaching a mainstream curriculum to students with a range of special educational needs - including dyslexia, PDA and ASC. I am particularly interested in classroom accessibility; identifying and removing barriers to learning and the utilisation of assistive technology.
Interest in being a governor:
I have lived in Berkhamsted for most of my life and attended Bridgewater as a pupil in the early 1980s (when it was a middle school). I also started my teaching career as a classroom volunteer at Bridgewater, and I have very happy memories of both associations. Now that I am in a position to be able to do some voluntary work, I am delighted to be back at the school, where I hope to be able to lend my SEN expertise and share best practice with my fellow teaching professionals.
