Matthew Griffiths, Teacher - Year 1 (Kingfisher) & Key Stage 1 Phase Lead
I am delighted to be teaching Year 6 this year and hope the children have an amazing final year at Primary School.
Whilst training to be a teacher, I was a football coach which I loved, because I had a passion for sport and quite a competitive nature! In 2016, I began my teaching career at Bridgewater and enjoyed teaching Year 3 for three years. At Bridgewater, I love how everyone works together and how we collectively celebrate successes across the curriculum and outside of school.
One of my most memorable moments as a teacher was seeing Year 4 children conquer their fears in a caving expedition during a residential trip. This summed up their determination to overcome obstacles that they faced both during lessons and in real life situations. Inspirational courage, which I hope to instil in all pupils I teach.
The challenge of preparing pupils for Secondary School excites me and I hope that the children will seize the opportunities Year 6 provides without feeling daunted by the SATs. Whilst their journey at Bridgewater is nearly over, it is important that they are academically and psychologically prepared for the new pathways they will encounter. The school values, particularly determination, growth and enrichment, are vital in this process. I have no doubt that with a positive mindset every child will be successful.
