Joanna Ansell, Co-opted (Vice Chair)
Role on Board: I joined the governing body in 2020 as an associate governor and then as a co-opted Governor.
Professional skills/background: I have spent most of my career in digitally focused, high growth global organisations and have a specific interest in leadership and the capability of organisations through People. I currently work with investors and business owners to grow at scale, building value for their business and am on the Digital Advisory Board of the US footwear and apparel organisation, Genesco Inc. Over the last 20 years I have worked at Amazon (in the UK, Japan, Netherlands and France), Progress Software, Figleaves and Fitflop. At Fitflop, I led a strategic transformation and company-wide ‘Digital First’ strategy for all global digital business models.
Interest in being a Governor: I have a daughter at Bridgewater and am keen to be an integral part of her education as well as being able to give something back to the local community. I come from a large family and my schooling was not particularly cohesive so I am determined to play an active role in my daughter's learning. I believe that we all learn in so many different ways and part of the journey for young people is to find out what works for them to be at their best and reach their full potential.
Your advice/quote for children at Bridgewater school: "Our time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life."
